The Word Guild's 2012 Awards Gala will be held on Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at World Vision Canada's headquarters, 1 World Drive, Mississauga, Ontario.

This year's Gala held at:

World Vision Canada, 1 World Drive, Mississauga, Ont. See map. If you are arriving from Pearson Airport go to the taxi stand outdoors at arrivals level. Cost is about $30 one-way. If you arrive early and wish to eat supper before the Gala, these restaurants are walking distance from World Vision Canada, one block north off Hurontario: Boston Pizza, Montana's, Shoeless Joes, Cafe Demetre, Denny's, McDonald's, and Prince Sushi.

Grace Irwin Award Winner The premier national event honouring Canadian writers who are Christian presents the Grace Irwin Award, the Leslie K. Tarr Award for outstanding career achievement, the Partnership Award for outstanding support of Canadian writers who are Christian, and The Word Guild Awards for the best books, novels, article, columns, poems, and song lyrics published in 2011. This is a black-tie event, so we are requesting tuxedos or dark suits with ties for men, formal or semi-formal wear for women. There will be a stand-up reception following the awards ceremony.

The Word Guild 2011 Writing Awards Gala

The 2011 Word Guild Awards Gala was held on Wednesday, June 15th at World Vision Canada's headquarters in Mississauga.Master of Ceremonies Herbie Kuhn, in-house voice of the Toronto Raptors basketball team, announced the awards at the Gala. The premier national event honouring Canadian writers who are Christian The association awarded its very first Grace Irwin Award, a $5,000 prize donated by her nephew John W. Irwin and his wife M. Eleanor Irwin, to Mags Storey of Newmarket, Ontario, for her book, If Only You Knew (Kregel Publishing), a novel that was also awarded prizes for best young adult book and romance of the year. The Tarr Award, awarded for outstanding career achievement, went to celebrated children’s author Jean Little, 78, of Guelph, Ontario. Already a member of the Order of Canada, she has authored 45 books. The Partnership Award went to Donald G. Bastian, a long-time affiliate of The Word Guild and former managing editor for Stoddart Publishing, now owner of Bastian Publishing Services Ltd.

The Word Guild 2010 Writing Awards Gala

The Word Guild 2009 Awards Gala was held on Wednesday, June 16th, at 7:30 p.m. at World Vision Canada's headquarters, 1 World Drive, Mississauga, Ontario. The premier national event honoured Canadian writers who are Christian presents the Leslie K. Tarr Award for outstanding career achievement, the Partnership Award for outstanding support of Canadian writers who are Christian, and The Word Guild Awards for the best books, novels, article, columns, poems, and song lyrics published in 2009. This year we also saw the first winner of the new Grace Irwin Award. Again we were honoured to have Herbie Kuhn, popular speaker and in-house announcer for the Toronto Raptors, as the emcee.

The Word Guild 2009 Writing Awards Gala

The Word Guild's third annual Writing Awards Gala was held on Wednesday June 17, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at World Vision Canada, 1 World Drive, Mississauga, Ont. The premier national event honouring Canadian writers who are Christian presented awards for outstanding career achievement, and for the best nonfiction books, novels, articles, columns, poems and song lyrics published in 2008. Herbie Kuhn, popular speaker and in-house announcer for the Toronto Raptors, was back by popular demand as the emcee.

The Word Guild's third annual Writing Awards Gala was held on Wednesday June 11, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at World Vision Canada, 1 World Drive, Mississauga, Ont. The premier national event honouring Canadian writers who are Christian presented awards for outstanding career achievement, and for the best nonfiction books, novels, articles, columns, poems and song lyrics published in 2007. Herbie Kuhn, popular speaker and in-house announcer for the Toronto Raptors, was emcee.


The Word Guild 2007 Writing Awards Gala

The Word Guild's second annual Writing Awards Gala was held on Wednesday June 13, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in the elegant Maureen Forrester Recital Hall, Wilfrid Laurier University, 75 University Avenue W., Waterloo, Ont. The premier national event honouring Canadian writers who are Christian will present awards for outstanding career achievement, and for the best nonfiction books, novels, articles, columns, poems and song lyrics published in 200Rick Gamble6. Rudy Wiebe was presented with the 19th annual Leslie K. Tarr Award for outstanding contribution to Christian writing and publishing in Canada. The evening was emceed by television host Christine Williams and award-winning journalist Rick Gamble. Williams has been a radio and television news reporter, and is currently the producer and host of her own current affairs program On the Line with Christine Williams, seen weekdays at 12 noon on CTS TV. Gamble formerly worked at CTV's Kitchener affiliate CKCO, where he did local and national news reporting for 23 years before becoming a communications instructor at Wilfrid Laurier University. Gamble–who also produces documentaries, pastors a church and writes a weekly religion column for The Brantford Expositor–was shortlisted for three of his columns.


The Word Guild 2006 Writing Awards Gala

Canada's first black-tie event honouring Canadian writers who are Christian was held on Wednesday June 14, 2006, at World Vision Canada in Mississauga, Ont. It was a huge success and received rave reviews! Our inaugural Gala featured a praise band, recording artists, excerpts from shortlisted work, book signings and a reception. The event was co-hosted by Ron and Ann Mainse from 100 Huntley Street. Read more about the 2006 Gala.
